It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a squad that has achieved everything.

That it took up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the opportunity.

Ultimately, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to produce her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her bow and seven world titles have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

If this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the case for championship match pressure. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was considerably tougher to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it's been a disappointing period because it seemed I lacked timing at all," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive instincts activate and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her key asset - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off the opening delivery and from that point Healy was underway.

"A chance to take the field and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

When she was removed her side needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we know we can succeed."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this championship want to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this success following victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against traditional opponents England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she later said she wished she had played despite the injury.

However although she later admitted those injuries have postponed plans to retire, this tournament is expected to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as captain.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
